Start Each Day with a Smile and a Song
Hey Reader! Dr. Jean says “You should start every day with a smile and a song.” That’s great advice! Did you know there’s actual science behind why a smile and a song first thing makes for a better day? First…just the act of smiling actually releases endorphins in your brain! A smile tells your brain that you are safe and happy. Show some teeth! There’s actually some truth to “fake it till you make it” when it comes to smiling. Sometimes the smile has to start on your face before it reaches your heart! Check out this article for 10 Big Benefits of Smiling including stress reduction, and immune-system boosting. Second, singing songs and moving your bodies together is actually said to release dopamine in the brain which is a bonding chemical. Singing together, dancing together, marching and clapping together tell our brain that we are part of a community. And we know that, since the brain is pattern-seeking, rhythm actually calms the brain and helps in preparing us to learn! So….do you need a fun idea for a morning song? Here’s one that I love: Hello Neighbor!
How do you do? It’s going to be a beautiful day! Clap your hands! Stomp your feet! Stretch up high, Take a seat. HERE is a short video from Dr. Jean with some fun good morning songs! You might find one that you like! HERE is another short video with more good morning and movement songs if you need a few more ideas. Remember that your singing ability is actually irrelevant and you don’t need a video or recording of any kind! The important thing is that you smile and sing and dance together with your students! What is your favorite good morning song for your classroom? Would you share it with us? Send us an email or comment on our social media this week!
