SESSION DESCRIPTION

Out of the Mouths of Babes: Developmentally Appropriate Language Activities for Little Learners

Learn how simple activities and developmentally appropriate toys (no batteries required!) can have the greatest impact on language development in toddlers (18-36 months).  Discover new songs, book lists, and how specific toys encourage language and imagination.

Little Hands Can Do Big Work: Developmentally Appropriate Fine Motor Activities for 18-36 month-olds

Learn practical activities to implement in your classroom immediately.  These developmentally appropriate fine motor invitations to learning can be set up with little planning and provide students with a fun, engaging environment they will thrive in.  Discover ways to think outside the box when repurposing items you already have into meaningful learning activities incorporating a variety of themes and seasons.

ABOUT KRISTEN LANDRY

Kristen is a proud graduate of Stonehill College, North Easton, MA where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Education Elementary Education. She went on to complete a Masters in Elementary Education at Cambridge College, Cambridge, MA. Kristen has taught third grade both in parochial and public elementary schools. She took a step away from the classroom for a few years to raise her own children. By the time her youngest was ready for preschool, she began to feel a calling back to the classroom. Kristen has taught at the preschool level for over 10 years. She currently teaches young 3’s at Oak Hills Preschool, San Antonio and runs a blog for her classroom which helps inform parents of the activities and purpose behind her lesson planning. She is passionate about presenting developmentally appropriate invitations to learning.

SESSION DESCRIPTION

Learning Math Through Play

Math is an important part of STEAM.  In this session, you will learn many ways to incorporate math into your day in ways that the children will enjoy and learn.  It is important to be intentional, but the students don’t have to know they are learning through play all day!

Nursery Rhymes Matter

Nursery rhymes are a great way to develop pre-reading skills while building confidence and having fun!  Come learn some nursery rhymes and discover the importance of nursery rhymes in this interactive workshop.  Your students will really feel like they matter when they can recite so many rhymes!

ABOUT JULIE HAMILTON

Julie graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Kinesiology and is certified to teach all levels of Physical Education and Health as well as Elementary Education and Early Childhood.  Julie has taught a total of 29 years including serving as a director of a Mothers’ Day Out and Preschool program for 4 years. Currently, Julie teaches Head Start in College Station ISD and has a passion for early childhood!

Through the EARS of a Child:  Music in Your School

Music can make or break a day in the classroom.  This session will help you use music more effectively throughout your day to increase fun, engagement and learning.

The Bible Through the Eyes of a Child:  Making Chapel Time GREAT!!!

Instilling Biblical truth at age-appropriate levels is one of the most important things we do in Christian early childhood learning programs.  We’ll learn how to keep children engaged in Bible learning, what concepts are most important and what to leave out!

ABOUT ERIKA BOATRIGHT

Erika Boatright is in her 27th year of learning with children.  She has taught students from birth through college aged in a variety of subject areas: chemistry, music, chapel, and mathematics.  At the end of each day, she says that all children need the very same thing:  a teacher who loves them!  She currently is following the Lord’s lead to serve as the chapel teacher at First Baptist Church, Georgetown.  She also works as a curriculum coordinator and member of the administrative team.  Erika is married to a wonderful man, has two grown daughters and is a brand new Mimi to a precious grandson!!

Loose Parts: Inside and Outside!

Do you ever think about bringing loose parts inside? And of course outside!! In this session you will discuss, see and experience loose parts for all ages.

Are Your Parents Ready for a Play-Based Preschool?

Are you as a teacher ready for a play based, child led learning preschool? You have to be able to teach parents that children are learning in this environment. In this session you will learn how to communicate that to parents.

ABOUT PAULA MILLER

Paula is a seasoned, Weekday Education Director with nearly 30 years of experience. She is an energetic motivator and provides visionary leadership grounded in faith to inspire and empower others to make a positive difference in the lives of young children in their care and their families. Paula is passionate about play-based preschool and is also an Outdoor Training Specialist certified through the Outdoor Classroom Project.
